Fall weekend, part 1

I managed to get the flu this year for the first time in years. At work on Tuesday I felt a sore throat coming on and by the time I left work that evening I was literally flushed with fever, and not in a good way. Sore throat, achy body, the need to sleep 10+ hours a night followed by 3+ naps each day, fever, chills, etc etc. To give you some idea of how badly I felt I didn't feel like exercising at all and I barely moved around my apartment and did not mind one bit. I was down for the count. I am happy to report I've (mostly - except for some gross snot issues and a hacking cough) recovered in time to participate in fall.

Fall in New England is awesome! It's what I longed for and dreamed about the entire time I was in California. This weekend was lovely and I didn't have to fill every damn day tromping around the city looking at condos I don't like and can't afford. On Friday night I went to a corn maze at some farm kind of far from me. I went with my brother, his friends and a big meet-up group. It was kind of misty/drizzly and it was dark so I couldn't see anything. Fortunately my brother brought me a flashlight to use! You were supposed to find 10(?) trivia stations that were supposed to help you navigate the maze. My group found the first station three times in a row (did I mention it was dark?) and found just one other station. We had fun tromping around in the corn, scaring each other and trying to scare the other groups. It did me a world of good to get out of my apartment and back into the land of the living!! I woke up on Saturday feeling a million times better and actually having an appetite!

On Sunday I went apple picking with X. X is a friend from college who I've reconnected with since I've been back. She's always up for plans so I decided we should go apple picking. I went apple picking with x when he was visiting from California last October and we had a great time. It was equally fun to go with X on Sunday, particularly since it was such a beautiful day. We went to an orchard not far from me and X was super impressed with how large the orchard was, how many apples there were, how big the apples were and how not crowded it was. I have to agree - it is a pretty great orchard!

In December they have "pick your own Christmas tree". I this shot of the Christmas trees against beautiful fall foliage.
The Christmas tress were so cute!! And smelled amazing! Yes, I know I've been bothered that the stores have had Christmas junk on sale since August but it just feels different to see the trees growing next to the apple trees.
Supposedly because of all the rain we had this is a banner year for apples. These apples were so healthy and beautiful and some of them were huge!
Golden delicious trees? Once you have an apple from an apple orchard, right of the tree, those things they sell in the grocery stores will never be enough!
I forget what kind these were - fuji? I made apple sauce this afternoon with my new Cuisinart and it came out so delicious! Good thing I got so many apples - I am going to run out very soon!
