I cannot believe how happy I am to say goodbye to 2007. What a difference a year makes!
On January 1, 2007 I went to the Rose Bowl Game, got food poisoning afterwards (Censored).
After work on Dec 31 I walked home via Colorado to see the masses setting up camp for sleeping out all night. I took pictures which I might upload later. It was nutty and very excessive. I called my brother and parents to wish them a happy new year. We are all hopeful for a great 2008. When I got home I made two pumpkin breads. The first one failed because I foolishly forgot to put Pam in the pan! I watched a very sweet movie, Dear Frankie and then just before bed I strolled around Colorado Blvd again. The police were out in full force and I could totally smell pot in a few areas. Mmmmm. Then I came home, got into bed and read for a while. Lights out and asleep by 9pm. I realize this is probably the lamest New Year's ever but I really couldn't wait to put 2007 behind me.
On January 1, 2008 I woke up feeling a little empty and out of sorts but that quickly turned around once (Censored). It was a really low key day. (Censored)! There is something about the crack of dawn on January 1 (or any holiday really) that is so great - peaceful and quiet, no traffic. Bliss. (Censored). We went to the beach and wandered around a little. Even after 6 years here I am still not used to how warm it is here in January. We used to go to the beach in winter in Massachusetts but it was freezing. Yesterday it was kind of hot and I got a little cranky but I felt better when we sneaked into LAX property to watch the planes take off and land. It's good to be a little naughty on the first of the year, to start the year of right, so to speak. I was a little naughty later on too ;)
My boss in Japan told me that whatever you do on January 1 will be what you do all year long. Oddly enough when she told me this we were in a karaoke booth on January 1 and yes, I did spend a lot of time warbling karaoke that year. January 1, 2007 - (Censored). January 1, 2008 - relaxed and did not stress. I must take this as a sign - 2008 is going to be great!
