my old stomping ground, part 1

I visited my alma mater for the first time since I graduated over the weekend. I really liked my school, the campus and most of my college years (except for my roommate first semester sophomore year, but that's a story for another day). The campus looked almost exactly the same! There were a lot more science buildings than I remember (but then again I didn't spend any time in them at all so it's hard to be sure) and there were like a million more geese hanging out by the campus pond! They must have been quite busy these past 13 years :-) Here's a little virtual tour of campus:

Overlooking the Central dorm area. The tall towers in the background is the Southwest dorm area:

The Fine Arts Center. I think I saw Miss Saigon here. The geese by the campus pond. They're fairly socialize but fairly vicious. Each May there was a huge outdoor free concert by the pond and invariably the front page of the campus newspaper had a picture of the geese attacking each other. The Library. I think it was 23 stories?? I used to study on the 13th floor, over looking the quad-ish area that went by the band chapel. The People's Market!!! I love the People's Market!!! I got a bagel here nearly every day once I moved off campus. The People's Market was into free trade foods, local merchants and organics long before it became the popular thing to do. I had a huge crush on one of the dreadlocked student employees . . . The Southwest tours. Southwest was a huge dorm area with 4 tours about around 20-ish low rises. My second semester sophomore year I got a double single (ie a room made for two but occupied by only me) in an all-girls low-rise dorm in Southwest. It was right next door to one of the tours. Fortunately my window didn't face the tower so I didn't have to watch lounge furniture falling from the 20th floor every weekend. College students are so clever. Emerson dorm. My home away from home second semester sophomore year. It was an all girl's dorm but who really wants to live with other girls at college? Most of the rooms were double singles.

Webster dorm! I lived here all of my freshman year and the first semester of my sophomore year. I should mention that on my campus all freshmen and sophomores were required to live on campus. I loved this dorm! Great friends, lots of fun and bowl wars!!!

  1. Ahh, memories.

I haven't been back for some time, though from your pictures, it looks much as I remember it.

I too had may a People's Market bagel, though I did not have a crush on any deadlocked employees. :)
