I am on call for jury duty this week. Because there are so many lawsuits that go to trial in the litigious land of California, citizens can be called as often as once per year. I have never ever been summoned to jury duty. I vote. I have a California driver's license. My car is registered here. I've never had any legal problems. I have lived in California for over 8 years! Some of my co-workers get summoned annually.
I may also be only of the only people on the face of the planet who actually wants to get called for jury duty. I am curious about how the whole process works. I'd like to see the inside of a courtroom and compare it to my memories of LA Law and Ally McBeal (I don't expect the LA Superior Courthouse to be nearly as nice as these lovely buildings; nor do I expect anyone to break out in song a la Ally). I am dieing to be called! Any yet, each night this week I've called in to see if I should appear I've been rejected. I suppose it's still possible that they'll want me on Thursday or Friday but my hopes are fading fast. Pick me pick me!
