Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of my bike crash and my broken elbow. Hard to believe it's been a year. Also hard to believe people still ask me about my elbow - it's been a year, it's fine! Well, it's not actually completely fine. I still bruise up on the tip of the plate if I ride in the aerobars outside and my elbow has an annoying habit of snapping (not cracking) at the most random times. I have also become a left-sided sleeper. Before the crash I always slept on my right side when possible but I can no longer hyper-extend my elbow so I guess it's just not the same to sleep on the right so I gravitate toward the left? Who knows - I'm asleep! There is a screw that's coming loose as I noted in a previous post. The doctor said the screw could go either way - stop where it is or get all Frankenstein-ish - so I just have to wait and see.
As inconvenient (and painful!) as it was to break my elbow I am sort of glad that it happened. It forced me to shift some of my priorities, take stock of my life and get a few other conundrums under control. I am just sorry that it took breaking my elbow to get a new perspective on life.
Happy Anniversary Elbow!
